The Chief Executive Officer of De-Sadel Consortium, Mr. Samuel Uko, has been named Changemaker of the Year at the 7th edition of the Leex Awards, held over the weekend in Abuja, Nigeria.
The award recognizes individuals driving transformative change and innovation across Africa.
Mr. Uko was honored for his visionary leadership and pioneering role in reshaping Nigeria’s transportation and energy sectors through groundbreaking initiatives such as the Locomotive Gas Conversion Project and the Proposed $200B High-Speed Bullet Train Project.
The Locomotive Conversion Project, the first of its kind in Africa, converts existing diesel-powered locomotives to operate on 70% Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and 30% Diesel, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at decarbonizing rail transport, lowering emissions, and significantly reducing fuel and maintenance costs.
In addition, the $200B High-Speed Bullet Train Project, championed by De-Sadel Consortium, is envisioned to connect the 36 states in Nigeria with world-class rail infrastructure, boosting trade, tourism, and regional integration.
It is projected to generate billions in revenue and create thousands of jobs, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Leex Awards, now in its seventh year, celebrates outstanding leaders, organizations, and innovators driving social and economic progress across the continent.
This year’s ceremony brought together top government officials, business executives, and development partners in recognition of excellence and impact.
