De-Sadel Consortium Successfully Retrofit, Test-Run Africa’s First LNG-Powered Locomotive In Nigeria.

In a historic milestone for Africa’s transportation sector, Africa’s first LNG/Diesel-powered locomotive has been successfully tested along the Abuja-Kaduna Rail Corridor.

The test – run which had Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Sen. Saidu Alkali, the CEO of De-Sadel Consortium, Samuel Uko onboard, and thousands of passengers marks a pivotal step toward sustainable energy solutions in the railway industry.

De-Sadel is leading Africa’s transition to greener energy by applying Dual Fuel technology to power locomotives.

This hybrid approach promises significant cost reductions, but the most critical aspect is its sustainability.

The project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Global Climate Change Agenda, reducing methane emissions through Nigeria’s leadership in the Methane Pledge Group, and contributing to our Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) towards achieving Net Zero by 2030.

Undoubtedly, this project places De-Sadel at the forefront of the green revolution.

As the first company in Africa to introduce this sustainable locomotive technology, De-Sadel continues to set the pace for innovation in the continent’s transportation sector.

“We thank Greenville LNG for supplying the gas that powered the locomotive and our technical partners, Dual Fuel Systems SP, Poland, for collaborating to make this achievement possible. The project exemplifies our commitment to addressing climate challenges while driving economic growth in line with global sustainability goals” – Samuel Uko
